Shah Alam @ Day Trip

Shah Alam is one of the states in Selangor that everyone should visit. Located 30 minutes away from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Shah Alam has a lot of attractions and great food.

The first place you should visit in Shah Alam is i-City. They call this place the City of Digital Lights. This is a technology park located on the outskirts of Shah Alam. At night the place comes alive with an amazing forest of man-made trees brightly illuminated with millions of colourful LED lights. For children it is a fairytale wonderland and even for middle aged guys like me the effect is very impressive.

Next to the forest of lights is Snowalk which is an indoor snow park where visitors can escape from the tropical heat for a while and experience 5 degree temperatures. For some Malaysians who have never seen snow before it is a novel experience. There is no entrance fees to enter i-City but the Snowalk would cost you Rm 35 which is a worth the money as you can do many things in Snowalk like playing with in the igloos, sliding down the ice houses slides, a mini-bobsled run, making snowmen, ice penguins, there’s also a bar made of ice, various ice sculptures and plenty more LED lights. Warm jackets are provided and trousers and boots can be rented at additional cost.

Besides that, i-City also has other attractions like the reptile house, Laser Warzone (a laser tag), amusement arcade/indoor funfair games, souvenir shops, food stalls and restaurants. Individual games fees cost from Rm5-Rm35 for each game. It is a great place for families to have fun and enjoy themselves. People that travel from other states can stay at hotels around the area at rates starting from Rm 90 per room. Food here is limited, there is one fast food chain(KFC) and a few more local restaurants that are cheap but not satisfying.

General Opening Hour:
Weekdays: 10.00am - 12.00am
Weekends / PH / School Holidays: 10.00am - 1.00am

The next place to visit is the National Botanical Garden in Shah Alam. This is an agricultural-based tourism centre run by the government. There are many activities that can be done in this beautiful tropical park which also is a center for research and agriculture studies and learning. Entry fees is only Rm 3 for an adult and Rm 1 for children and seniors.

This first thing to do is to explore this park on a bike. A bike here would cost you Rm 10 for the first hour and Rm 1 every hour after that. There are many hills with roads making it a great place to go cycling. There is also many plants and animals that can be seen in this place. There’s an animal park with horses, deer’s, roasters, rabbits and etc and also many type of tropical plants in this park. You can also find a cactus garden and paddy fields as well as a large lake in this park that you go canoeing. Canoeing would cost you only Rm 5 for 1 hour.

There is also a mini animal exhibition for people to visit and its free of charge.

If cycling, canoeing and hiking is not thrilling enough, you can try the Skytrex Adventure Park. This is an obstacle course made to challenge the braves of hearts. Skytrex has rock climbing, monkey bars on 20 meter high trees and rope walks on 20 meter high trees and 24 more challenges to complete. Skytrex will cost you Rm 45 for adults and 25 for children. Overall the National Botanical Garden is a great place for the adventures and for the people that just want to enjoy nature.
